Availability update:
I am now "semi-retired" from day to day guiding in Arizona. Generally, I will not be accepting new business but will consider a limited number of  requests as my schedule permits.

Whenever possible, I will continue to help current clients who have supported me over the years. I also plan to continue my regular out of state trips (available to everyone, not just current clients). For the time being, I'll continue to publish the journal.

Southern California in September:
I'll be in southern CA working with clients from September 6 to 11, 2013 and I can extend dates to accommodate additional clients. Contact me if interested.

The journal contains selected sightings, newsworthy items and comments as I go about my daily birding. For each month, there's a log of my ramblings, a list of species seen during the month and links to photos taken during the month. Through the journal I strive to inform, entertain and educate by putting less common sightings into perspective with my own data as well as published data. If you see anything potentially misleading or, perish the thought, incorrect, please bring it to my attention.

Journal Format
By default, monthly journals are HTML files displayed in the main (this) window. You can also display them in a separate window by right clicking the monthly links. Journals are also available as PDF files. Note that although all internal navigation links and most of the external links to photos, etc. in the PDFs will function, some links will not work. I've provided the PDF versions so that you can easily print them, use the HTML versions for normal viewing. To access the PDF index, click the "switch to PDF style journal" link at the top of the journal index. Clicking a month will then display the PDF journal in a separate window. Click "switch to normal style" at the top of the PDF index to revert back to displaying HTML journals in this window. Note that PDF journals are only available for completed months (therefore, the current month is never available in PDF format and the link is grayed out).

Navigation:
Use the links in the main index (top left) to select index files for monthly journals (default), species lists, photo links and featured bird archives. The links in the "journal box" above always access the current monthly HTML format journal, species list and photo links list. Note: clicking "Journal Home" in the header will restore this info page and the HTML style journal index.

Journal and Species - monthly journal entries and monthly species seen lists
- use the calendar or links to navigate the journal.
- click anywhere on an image page to return from photo links within a journal or species list.
- use to access a complete list of photo links for the month being viewed.
Generally throughout the site, link text colors are green and blue; informational text colors are maroon and black.

Photo Index - links to monthly photo lists
Unlike the photo links in the body of the journal that open in the main (this) window, the links in the monthly photo lists open in separate (appropriately sized) windows and remain open until you close them. This feature allows users with large displays (generally, 1024 x 768 pixels or more) to compare multiple images on screen at the same time (not necessarily from the same month's journal). Non-standard (large) images are best viewed with this feature since it will use all the vertical height available, according to your display size. Note: Depending on how your browser operates, images are usually minimized to the taskbar when you open another image so you may have to maximize them again to display multiple images at the same time. You can also use the date headers in the monthly photo lists to navigate to those dates in the journal.

Trip reports indexed by date and by location
The "Trip by date" and "Trip by place" indexes provide links to tours and some of the trips that I make outside of Southeast Arizona. They simply jump to the appropriate dates in the journal (some trips have a introductory section/summary). Years are listed in reverse chronological order, trips are listed in chronological order within each year. Click on to display a species list and to display a list of photo links. Species and/or photos for trips without a specific list can be found in the body of the report.
