#635 - Ferruginous Hawk
Ferruginous Hawk is an uncommon winter visitor to grasslands and agricultural fields in southeast Arizona, especially in Sulphur Springs Valley east of Sierra Vista. Unfortunately, winter numbers in the valley have declined since demand for ethanol caused corn to replace winter wheat as the main crop in traditional wintering spots. This individual was photographed there on December 11, 2004.

#636 - Red-naped Sapsucker
Red-naped Sapsucker in an uncommon and local breeder in northeast and east central Arizona (perhaps more common in the White Mountains); and a fairly common winter visitor to southeast Arizona, primarily in oak-juniper; mixed pine-oak and (less commonly) deciduous habitat. The two friendly individuals pictured above were shot in Sawmill Canyon, Huachuca Mtns. on November 25, 2004.
