I spent from July 27 through August 3, 2009 in the White Mountains of Arizona. This was my annual summer trip although this year I was only able to spend one week of a planned three weeks. As in southeast Arizona, the monsoon season wasn't happening and rainfall was well below average during my time in the mountains. Mornings were reasonable but afternoons were very warm by White Mountain standards,
Due to the I short trip, I didn't have time to visit all the areas that I normally check, especially low elevation areas. Nevertheless, I saw most of the White Mountain specialties (Pinyon Jay was a notable exception). Including travel days, I found a total of 150 species on the trip (113 species within my White Mountains measurement area).
By using the links above, you can find day to day details of the trip (in my journal); see the the overall trip list; and view the bird photos that I took from the links in the photo list. Comments and questions welcome.
